Parking and Traffic Enforcement CCTV

The council operates a separate Traffic Enforcement CCTV Operation, some CCTV cameras are used to enforce moving traffic contraventions and some parking restrictions but all cameras can be used for Community Safety purposes.

Moving traffic contraventions include:

  • banned turns (e.g. no left/right turn)
  • no entry
  • yellow box junctions
  • pedestrian zones
  • illegal U-turns
  • blue arrow sign (e.g. keep to the left/right)
  • bus lane

This service is carried out in accordance with the Road Traffic Regulations Act 1984, The London Local Authorities 1996, and Local Authorities act 2000. The London Local Authorities and Transport for London 2003 and the Traffic Management Act 2004.

The 2004 Act provides a system approval scheme for CCTV systems used for parking enforcement known as “Approved Device Certification”.  All systems used for the enforcement of parking contraventions must be certified by the Department for Transport (or its appointed agents) under this scheme.
